Lily Jean Crickmar of Mt. Juliet, competed in the 2012 Tennessee State 4-H Championships in Shelbyville, June 18-23. Competing at the show and being able to represent Wilson County was a terrific honor for the Stoner Creek upcoming fifth-grader. Some of the best youth riders in Tennessee spent months preparing for the show in hopes of improving their relationships with their horses, bringing home ribbons, or even being named Champion.Over the course of the show, Lily competed in Speed Events, Ranch Horse, Spotted Saddle Horse and Walking Horse divisions. Lily and her horse “Kate” took top honors in the Jr. Ranch Horse Division and were named the State Grand Champions. The team also ran third in Jr. Barrels and Pole Bending. In the Jr. Spotted Saddle Horse Division, Lily and “Domino’s Spotted Dolly” were awarded the Reserve State Champion honors. She also did very well in the Walking Horse Division aboard “The Cruiser” where she placed in every class entered including taking the blue in the Halter Pony class.
When asked what the best part of the show was, the ten-year old responded, “Winning ribbons was fun but the best part was getting to hang out and ride horses with my friends.”
A special thank you goes to all of the 4-H agents, leaders, and volunteers from across the state that support the horse program. The life lessons learned from owning, caring for and showing horses serve these young people for the rest of their lives. The 4-H Horse Program teaches valuable skills in leadership, problem solving, determination and hard work, goal setting and planning, organization, responsibility, confidence, and poise.
Lily would also like to personally express her gratitude to her trainer, Zana Lauer for countless hours of coaching and patiently teaching her about horse care and horsemanship; her 4-H Horse Project Leader, Brittany Barnett, and 4-H Express peers for allowing her to join and learn from a great group of young equestrians; Kathy Hillis and Donny Williams for supporting her riding endeavors and hauling her horse all over the state for various shows and competitions; Hannah Williams, her riding partner at Rock Bottom Stables; and her family and friends for supporting her one true passion and love of horseback riding. Lily is the daughter of David and Rachel Crickmar and the sister of proud little brother, Sam.
