Members of the Gladeville United Methodist Church gave away free gas Saturday morning at Cook’s Market on S. Mount Juliet Rd., in an event called “Pray at the Pump.”Wearing lime green shirts that said “THE CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING,” the group passed out $5 gas vouchers to patrons of the market, and offered to pray with them over their concerns.
“It was pretty nice,” said customer Lee Robinette. “At first I couldn’t figure out why they were doing it, but it was a really good thing. I like their t-shirts.”
”We have been blessed, and we just want to return the blessings to others,” said church member Lauren LaFevers.
The “Pray at the Pump” event is part of an ongoing project at the church called “Servolution,” where members look for ways to serve others.
“We believe that we are here to be an intersection of faith and life,” said Pastor Mark Youngman. “So serving others at an actual intersection was a fun way to reach out. Being the church is about sharing grace and love in big and small ways on a daily basis. We find that it’s contagious.”
Gladeville United Methodist Church is located on Stewarts Ferry Pike, a half mile west of SR 840 next to the Post Office.
