In addition to the annual Autumn & Friends golf tournament, organizers of the tournament are holding a party prior to the event with music, fun and a mini-silent auction to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

This marks the third year of the Autumn & Friends charity tournament, which has raised $28,000 for the CF Foundation in its first two years. One of the event’s organizers, Vera Smith, said the goal this year is $25,000.

Gary Bennett began raising money for the CF Foundation after his daughter Autumn, lost her struggle with Cystic Fibrosis in 1997. In 2010, Bennett, who admits he is not a golfer, decided to add the charity tournament to expand the fundraising.

But new this year is the party to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Music City Bar & Grill, which was the idea of the restaurant’s owner, Blake Kovrig. Music City Bar & Grill is located at 2416 Music Valley Drive in Nashville.

Smith said Kovrig approached them and wanted to help raise money for the CF Foundation, offering to hold a party at his restaurant.

“Blake is very involved in the music industry and offered to help us raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis at his establishment,” she said.

The party will feature a performance by local country music band the Skahls, a mini-silent auction and a chance to sign up for the golf tournament or purchase tickets to the dinner following the tournament.

Admission to the party is $10 at the door and all money raised will go to the CF Foundation.

The third annual Autumn & Friends golf tournament will later be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Windtree Golf Club in Mt. Juliet. With either an 8 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, the tournament is a Four-Person Scramble style.

The field is limited to the first 120 paid entries. The entry fee is $120 per person or $420 for a team of four. Smith said all those wishing to play must sign up by Sept. 15.

Those who enter the tournament receive a team photo courtesy of Annie’s Photography, Inc., range balls on the day of the event, and snacks and drinks on the course. Also, golfers can compete in Hole in One contests sponsored by Andrews Cadillac and U.S. Community Credit Union. Golfers will also be awarded for the longest drive and closest to the pin.

Following the tournament, dinner will be catered by Courtney’s and prizes will be handed out for golfers and the Skahl Family will again perform throughout the evening.

The silent auction runs from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and features prizes such as rounds of golf, Southwest Airline tickets, gift certificates and gifts donated from local businesses and sponsors.

“We will have a signed guitar, autographed Charlie Daniels’ fiddle, Southwest tickets, Predators hockey tickets, Zanies tickets and many more auction items. Also lots of door prizes like Nashville Zoo tickets, car washes, dinner certificates to local restaurants and more,” Smith said.

She added that 32 teams have confirmed for the charity golf outing as of Thursday afternoon and noted there is still plenty of space available for anyone wishing to join.
