The Board of Commissioners approved the second reading of re-establishing a Mt. Juliet Fire Department, and appropriated funds for a Fire Chief on first reading.
The re-establishing of the Mt. Juliet Fire Department was passed in the consent agenda without any discussion on the topic. It passed unanimously on both readings.
The ordinance on appropriating funds for the Fire Chief was also approved unanimously. The cost for half a year to hire the Fire Chief will be $51,000. That includes all benefits that come with the position.
The Board also approved rules of political signs and campaign workers within Charlie Daniels Park for the upcoming election season. Campaign workers will be allowed in the area between the walking trail and tennis courts. Political signs shall not be affixed to the ground by any means, they must be hand held.
An ordinance amending the budget to appropriate funds for new communication equipment for the Fire Department was also approved. MJPD Sergeant Tyler Chandler said he may be able to take advantage of a deal with Motorola right now to get more equipment at a discount rate. He is going to verify before second reading, and the commissioners will decide before then if they want to go forward.
Other items approved were re-appointing Jon Gray as head of the Mt. Juliet Animal Shelter Volunteer Organization, and an agreement to obtain row and easements for the Eastern Connector.
