Mt. Juliet High School played in the Ladies Championship tournament Sept. 13-15, and went 2-2.
The Lady Bears beat Lipscomb Thursday night 3-2, lost to St. Cecilia on Friday afternoon 4-0, beat Portland 3-0 on Saturday morning, and lost to St. Cecilia 2-0 in the championship of their pool on Saturday afternoon.Thursday against Lipscomb the Lady Bears won 3-2. Julia Duggan scored three goals in the first half for us. Mt. Juliet was up 3-1 at halftime. Lipscomb scored one goal in the second half, and they had to hang on to win 3-2. Laura McDermott was solid as goalie in the win.
Friday against St. Cecilia, Mt. Juliet was down 2-0 at halftime and lost 4-0. The Lady Bears had 13 shots on goal. Shelby Brown had 15 saves in the game.
Saturday morning, the Lady Bears beat Portland, 3-0. Brooklynn Hartsook scored first in the 19th minute. Sarah Carter scored in the 28th minute and Julia Duggan scored in the 31st minute. Laura McDermott had seven saves. The Lady Bears kept the ball in Portland’s end for most of the game and did a good job of limiting Portland to taking bad shots when they did have the ball.
Saturday afternoon, Mt. Juliet faced St. Cecilia again in the pool’s championship game at Lipscomb and got beat 2-0. St. Cecilia scored 13 minutes into the game. They scored their second goal 25 minutes into the second half. Shelby Brown had 10 saves for us in this game. The Lady Bears outshot St. Cecilia 18 to 16 but couldn’t get one in.
Julia Duggan was named to the All-Tournament team for scoring four goals (including a hat trick against Lipscomb on Thursday).
“I was proud of the way our girls played this weekend,” said Head Coach Ryan Hill. “We keep talking about getting better as the season goes along and we definitely did that this weekend. We have 15 freshmen out of 21 healthy players and they are all contributing to our team.”
After the tournament, Mt. Juliet beat Lebanon last Tuesday 4-0 and Wilson Central last Thursday in double overtime 3-2. Their record is now 7-6 (3-3 in 9-AAA).
