Wilson Central was able to bottle up Jalen Hurd, but couldn’t overcome Beech in a 17-14 loss Friday.

Beech quarterback Lincoln Kenitzer found Parker Campbell in the end zone with less than a minute remaining to give the Bucs the victory. Central’s defense held Hurd to just 77 yards on 21 carries, his lowest of the season.

The beginning of the game was a battle of the defenses. Central forced Beech to go three and out twice and Beech forced Central to go three and out once.

On Central’s second possession, they started out with the ball near midfield. D.J. Majors started the drive with a 34 yard run to Beech’s 18.  Central kept the ball on the ground as Alex Price had a 5 yard run and Givens had runs of five, two, and ran in the touchdown from two yards out. Brad Cavanough kicked the extra point and Central went up 7-0.

Beech took their next possession 80 yards, in 16 plays and used up seven minutes to tie the game.

The rest of the half was a defensive battle with each offense only getting one first down.

After Central was stalled to start the second half, Beech started their next drive on their own 39.  They moved the ball to Central’s 15 but were backed up because of penalty.  Kicker Christian Peek hit the 47-yard field goal to put Beech up 10-7.

Central’s offense then methodically moved the ball 80 yards on 10 plays to take the lead, 14-10. Jordan Roundtree plunged in from a yard out and Cavanough kicked the extra point putting Central up, 14-10.

Central looked poised for another score, but Beech’s Parker Henry picked off a pass in the end zone, which set up the game winning drive.

Beech started with the ball on their own 32 and went down the field going 68 yards in 11 plays and scored with 44 seconds left in the game.

Central tried to get another score, but another pass was intercepted by the Bucs.

Central is now 7-1 and will have a bye this week.  They resume play on Oct. 19 at Station Camp. The game starts at 7 p.m.  If you can not attend the game, you can listen to or watch the game online at and click on “listen live”.
