GALLATIN – Wilson Central’s offense came out slow against the Station Camp Bison Friday night after the long bye week.Their first possession resulted in an interception and the second ended in a fumble. Central’s defense also came out a little shaky as they allowed the Bison to score and take an early 7-0 lead. The Bison led at the end of the first quarter, but the Wildcats were on the move.
On Central’s drive that started in the first quarter and continued into the second, Kaleb Butler had a big run of 24, and Roundtree hooked up with Chris Lee on gains of 23 and 21 yards, the second of which was for a touchdown. Brad Cavanough kicked the extra point and Central tied the game at 7.
On Central’s next possession, the offense again went to work. Lee caught a 34 yard pass from Roundtree. Butler had a 1 yard run for a touchdown and Brad Cavanough kicked the extra point and Central took the lead 14-7.
The Bison then began to move the ball. However, Ron Crutchfield and Trey Givens came up with big sacks that stalled the offense and the Bison were forced to kick the ball away.
On Central’s final possession of the half, they took advantage of a short field and gave the Bison a heavy dose of Butler with runs of 5, 9, 6, and 2 yards. With the ball resting on Station Camp’s 20 yard line, Cavanough came in and kicked a field goal with 28 seconds remaining, allowing Central to go into halftime with a 17-7 lead.
The third quarter was a battle of the defenses as the only score came late in the quarter. The Bison were able to move the ball all the way to Central’s four, but the defense held as they forced Station Camp to kick the field goal. Going into the fourth quarter, Central led 17-10.
Preston Reed came up with a big play in the fourth as he forced a fumble and recovered it on Station Camp’s 2-yard line. Two plays later Roundtree ran in from one yard out. Brad Cavanough kicked the extra point and Central lead was 24-10.
The Bison attempted to move the ball but Eric Simmons came up with a big interception to end the drive. Central then ran out the clock to move to 8-1.
Roundtree threw for 4 of 11 and 91 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also had one rush for a touchdown. Lee caught all of Roundtree’s passes and had 91 yards receiving and a touchdown. Butler had 17 rushes for 93 yards and a touchdown.
Central (8-1) will face Mt. Juliet (8-1) this Thursday night. The game starts at 7 p.m. If you cannot attend the game, it will be televised on WUXP-30’s Thursday Night Lights.
This game is expected to be heavily attended and Central anticipates that the school parking lot will be full around 6:30 p.m. Overflow parking will be at Gladeville Baptist Church. School buses will be running from there.
