Del Webb Lake Providence is filled with charitable groups that have helped Mt. Juliet in many ways since the retirement community opened a few years back.

One of those groups is the Waterbugs, who combine their weekly water aerobics routine with charitable outreach, and have been doing so since 2008.

“We just have a good time,” said Mavis Marx, who leads the group along with Margie Carrington.

The Waterbugs, which have 113 members, have water aerobics classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday evening there is a class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Some of the Waterbugs even competed in the Senior Olympics recently.

“We are very active elderly,” said Marx.

When the Waterbugs aren’t exercising, they are helping out charities, including: CASA for Children of Wilson & Smith Counties, Cedar Creek Community Band of Mt. Juliet, Mt. Juliet Help Center, Magdalene / Thistle Farms, Brooks House, Rutland Elementary School, Mt. Juliet Animal Shelter, Homesafe, Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation and Nashville Drug Court Support Foundation.
