DAYTON, Tenn. – Melissa Smith, a sophomore music/piano pedagogy major at Bryan College, recently earned an honorable mention rating at a collegiate piano competition at Belmont University.
Melissa, daughter of Mike and Cheryl Smith of Mt. Juliet, competed against 14 students, including undergraduate and graduate students from institutions in Tennessee. The competition was sponsored by the Tennessee Music Teachers Association.
Dr. Sigrid Luther, professor of music said Melissa’s accomplishment is remarkable. “For Melissa, a piano pedagogy major, to compete against piano performance majors, some of them graduate students, and receive an honorable mention was quite an accomplishment!”
Next school year, Melissa will serve as accompanist for the Bryan Chamber Singers.
