Opal Esther Ebest, 98, Mt. Juliet, died Friday, Dec. 14.Opal was born in a tiny log cabin on Wolf Ridge, near Waldron, Ark. on Christmas Day in 1913, and she died just 11 days short of her 99th birthday. She was the oldest member of Mt. Juliet Church of Christ. She loved flowers and served as President of the Garden Club in San Antonio, Texas. Her flower garden was always the prettiest on the block, encircling her backyard. Opal was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Eugene Herrington and Martin William Ebest.
She is survived by: daughters, Sandra Sue (Don) Humphrey of Mt. Juliet, Kathleen Ann Herrington of Montpelier, Vt.; grandchildren, Shelley Hendricks, Scott Humphrey, Shawn Humphrey, Staci Yocom, Stephanie Allen and Shannon Sadik; great-grandchildren, Ryan Humphrey, Brittany Humphrey, Will Humphrey, Dylan Hendricks, Luke Humphrey, Landon Yocom, Jake Humphrey, Ben Yocom, Kristen Humphrey and Ridge Humphrey.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Bond Memorial Chapel with David Shannon officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Allen, Don Humphrey, Ryan Humphrey, Scott Humphrey, Shawn Humphrey and Tommy Yocom. Honorary pallbearers will be those who took communion to Providence Place weekly.
