Charis Health Center, a non-profit primary health care clinic for the working uninsured, strives to care for the entire patient in body, mind and spirit. In order to help meet the spiritual needs of our patients, Charis now has a trained spiritual director available at our clinic for appointments on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.“We are pleased to extend our services to include Spiritual Care not only to current Charis patients, but the community as a whole,” said Karen Rudzinski, Executive Director. “Charis Health Center is committed to providing valuable services at affordable rates to the Wilson County community.”
Thirty minute sessions can be scheduled at the Center by calling (615)773-5785. With current funding made possible by Providence Church, the first two sessions are free for all Charis patients. Non-patients are also welcome to schedule appointments for Spiritual Direction for $20 per session made payable to Charis Health Center.
Spiritual direction is an ancient process of accompanying people on a spiritual journey to help them learn to see and hear God’s activity in their life more clearly. Numerous studies show a person’s health and well-being benefit greatly when his or her spiritual needs are addressed. Benefits can include an improved sense of well-being, motivation to complete the task of healing and even improved pain management. And while the benefits of spiritual direction are often therapeutic, it is not a substitute for counseling. Spiritual directors are not trained as counselors to work with individuals in a goal-oriented or “fixing” mode but rather a companioning mode of helping others learn to care for their spirit.
Charis Health Center operates similar to a regular medical office with the main difference being that it is staffed primarily by volunteers. If you live in Wilson County, you do not have health insurance coverage, and if you or someone in your household is employed, you are eligible to be a patient. Charis Health Center is now located at 2620 N. Mt. Juliet Road in Mt. Juliet.
Charis is open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Well women visits are provided the second Tuesday of each month 8 a.m. to noon. Appointments are required. To make an appointment or learn more about Charis Health Center services, call the office at (615)773-5785.
