Ribbon cutting ceremony marks opening of new cardiac cath lab

TriStar Summit Medical Center hosted their Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting for their new Cardiac Catheterization Lab on Tuesday, Feb. 26. An estimated 150 community members and business leaders attended the event and shared in the celebration.

Construction for the new Cath Lab began in November 2012 and invested $1.5 million back into the community.

The growth and need for a second Cath Lab at TriStar Summit can be partly attributed to the Emergency Department’s overwhelming volume (over 52,000 visits in 2012). With the surrounding communities continuing to grow, TriStar Summit has seen a steady increase in admissions, cardiac cath volumes, outpatient visits and surgeries over the past years, which has also contributed to the need.

The new addition measures 3,342 square feet. With the upgrade of the existing lab, both Cath rooms have state-of-the-art technology, which includes the most sophisticated patient monitoring systems and filmless capabilities. “This new Cath Lab is vital to saving the lives of heart attack victims here in our community,” said Holly Hill, cardiac services director at TriStar Summit Medical Center. “We’ve had excellent results in providing interventional treatment quickly to heart attack victims who are brought to our emergency department, and with the addition of the new lab it ensures that we will continue to provide exceptional quality care.”
