Wayne Garrett, 77, Mt. Juliet, died Sunday, March 31.
Wayne was a man that loved life, laughter, the Lord and people. Every day and every relationship were marked by these four loves. At E.I. DuPont, in Old Hickory, TN, he worked faithfully for 32.5 years. He enjoyed going to the plant and doing the work set before him, but he dedicated himself to the people with whom he worked. They were the stories he told. Leeville United Methodist Church was his church home, the place that set the rhythm of his life. He served gladly and gave willingly because it was home, but the people were what made it so, not the bricks and mortar. They were more like family to him than friends, and he genuinely delighted in them, both young and old. They were never far away from his heart and mind. But family was the song of his life. His sister, Kaye (Tommy) Everett and his brother, L.D. (Jean) Garrett were his two best friends. Their love and enjoyment of one another was infectious. He and his wife, Donna enjoyed 40 years of marriage, and they truly shared life together. He was not one to enjoy being out of her company for very long. He had one son, Hal (Tiffany) Everett, and two grandchildren, Sawyer and Sydney Everett. His greatest gift to them was time, and he gave it cheerfully, generously and without apology. And God’s great gift to us is that we knew him and were loved by him. 2 Corinthians 9:7 – “Each man must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
