Encore Theatre Company a 501(c)3 non-profit organization is pleased to present “Cinderella Wore Combat Boots” by Jerry Chase as the second event in the Summer of Music, Theatre and Arts at Charlie Daniels Park Stage Saturday July 6 at 6:30 p.m.
This is a free family friendly performance made possible by Jeff Gannon State Farm and Rutland Place our corporate sponsors. The City of Mt. Juliet Parks and Recreation Department, Mt. Juliet/West Wilson County Chamber of Commerce and The Arts Alliance helped put together this free community series of entertainment. Please bring a lawn blanket, lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy while watching Wilson Counties finest community theatre production of this classic Cinderella performance.
This Encore production of “Cinderella Wore Combat Boots” Directed by Kurt Grabenstein, is a modern version of the classic Cinderella story that has all the basic elements of the classic story, but told here with a considerable and highly imaginative difference. Cinderella, and the other characters, think and speak in modern terms, replacing the innocent mood of the original with the very hip and knowing attitudes of today’s young people.
And Cinderella does wear combat boots to the ball – which is delightfully consistent with the wacky, tongue-in-cheek, and continually diverting style of this thoroughly charming short play. The talented cast is all local and hails primarily from the Wilson County area.
“Cinderella Wore Combat Boots” premiered at Encore in January of this year, and the one-act play was so popular it was presented (by request) at the Children’s Hullabaloo at Pinkerton Park in Franklin TN on June 12. As part of our evening, we will also present a scene from our upcoming show “Red, White and Tuna” by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, directed by and starring Bowd Beal and Hugh Britt portraying 24 different characters. If you saw the Encore production of “A Tuna Christmas” you will recognize some of the Tuna, Texas citizens and meet a few new folks too! The show opens at Encore on July 12 with a limited two weekend run. Tickets can be purchased on-line, by phone, or at the door and will be available for sale at the park on July 6.
Mark your calendars as the free entertainment in Charlie Daniels Park continues this summer with performances by The Jazz Alliance on Aug. 3, A Singer Song Writer Night Sept. 7 and Cedar Creek Community Band Oct. 5.
Mark Hinesley with the Chamber of Commerce says that, “Mt. Juliet is growing everyday and it is fantastic for this community to have music, theatre and the arts presented for free in our premiere public park. The community is made a much better place when we have creative people and organizations providing entertainment and enjoyment for all. Please come on out and support Encore Theatre Company on Saturday July 6”.
