Dr. Mark Green, who serves as Tennessee State Senator serving Houston, Stewart and Montgomery counties, will be speaking at the Wilson County Conservative Republicans monthly meeting Saturday at Logan’s in Providence, 9:15 a.m.
A decorated former Army Ranger medic who served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, he was named ‘Rookie of the Year’ by the Tennessee Journal for his first year in the senate.
Graduating from West Point in 1986, Green was the the special operations flight surgeon on the December 2003 mission that captured Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and was assigned to sit with him throughout the first 24 hours after his capture. He has written a book about the experience called “A Night with Saddaam.”
An 18-year Army veteran, Dr. Green is a recipient of the Bronze Star, The Air Medal, The Air Medal with “V” device for valor under heavy enemy fire, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, The Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Services Achievement Medal, the Combat Medical Badge, the US Army Ranger Tab, US Army Flight Surgeons’ Wings, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Senior Parachutists Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
In civilian life, he is the President and CEO of Align MD, which is based out of Clarksville.
