An ordinance to appropriate funds for the purchase of the Joy Church property site on Charlie Daniels Park passed Monday.

The site had been discussed several times over the past few months for several different uses. Joy Church International will be moving to a new location on 27 acres near the corner of Lebanon Road and Benders Ferry Road.

It was first brought up as a possible extra recreation center and addition to Charlie Daniels Park, then as a possible new City Hall.

On Monday it was brought once again to the table with possible plans as a City Hall or Police Department.

The cost for the property would be $1.5 million, which would be paid in $300,000 increments over the next five years.

The commissioners chose to use the property for the Mt. Juliet Police Department. Mayor Ed Hagerty thought the City Hall should stay where it is.

“The City Hall should be on the main drag,” said Hagerty.

Hagerty had some hesitation in the past about the Joy Church property, but was in favor of using it for the Police Department. He said he liked that it was near one of the problem areas in the community.

“Sounds like I got something I can vote for,” said Hagerty.
