Mt. Juliet lost to Smyrna, 3-2, Tuesday, Sept. 3, but bounced back with a win Thursday over Portland, 7-0.
Smyrna led 2-1 at the half before Nataya Wade tied it up with a girl in the third minute of the second half. She was assisted by Riley Wendling. However, Smyrna was able to get the winning goal in the 30th minute of the second half.
Mt. Juliet outshot Smyrna, 22-9. Sarah Carter had six saves.
“Our defense let us down on the three goals Smyrna scored,” said Head Coach Ryan Hill. “We made mental mistakes close to the goal and it cost us.”
In the Portland game, Nikki Blais scored seven minutes into the game with an assist by Chandler Scott. Blais scored again in the 11th minute with an assist by Nataya Wade. Caitlin Bender scored in the 27th minute unassisted. Corrine Cheatham scored in the 36th minute with an assist by Savanah Collins. Julia Duggan scored 16 seconds into the first half on an assist by Wendling. Duggan scored again in the 17th minute of the second half with an assist by Caitlin Bender. Destini Oldham scored our last goal in the 33rd minute of the second half unassisted.
Mt. Juliet outshot Portland 29-2.
“We dominated possession the whole game,” said Hill. “Most of the game was played on our offensive side of the field. Our midfielders did a great job keeping the ball pushed forward which gave us multiple chances to score.”
