Channel 5 News Anchor, Vicky Yates is the Honorary Chair of the event and will be the official walk starter Saturday, Oct. 26 for the Celebrate MJ Walk.
The three mile & six mile walks will start and end at the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center. Vicky will join the half mile mini walk for kids and seniors at 8:30 a.m.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and opening ceremonies will begin at 7:45 a.m. The walk will begin at 8 a.m. Ms. Senior Wilson County, Deborah Williams will sing the National Anthem. The walk will proceed north on Mt. Juliet for 1.5 miles and circle back for the first 3 mile loop. Walkers can end there or proceed south for a second 3 mile loop. Along the way, walkers will enjoy several water stations, music, mascots, cheerleaders and event hoopla. The post event party includes refreshments and a concert with Country Artist, Paul Alan Coons.
A prize will be presented to the largest team and the team that raises the most money. Since it is Halloween weekend, a prize will also be presented to the walker wearing the most creative costume.
The $25 (6 mile and 3 mile) and $15 (half mile) fee includes a commemorative T-shirt designed by artist, Sally Murphy, opening ceremonies, the post event party and concert. Sally’s third year T-shirt design, highlights Mt. Juliet Road and the walkers in bright shoes on the beautiful Mt. Juliet Road. Goody Bags & T-shirts can be picked up the day before the walk from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Early bird walkers who pay by Oct 1 will receive a $5 discount).
Proceeds will benefit the Mt. Juliet Senior activity center, “where friends meet”. The mission of the center is to provide a place for older adults to gather for social, educational and recreational activities and to alleviate isolation and loneliness among the elderly.
