Next weekend is the inaugural race of the Tennessee High School Cycling League, a new mountain bike racing series for High School students.
This new series is modeled after the successful California and Colorado racing series. The NICA, or National Interscholastic Cycling Association, sanctions the series. In this first season, a fall series, we will be holding four races in September through November. The first race is next weekend, Sept. 15 at the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) mountain bike trails, located on Woods Reservoir near Tullahoma. The next three races will be held at St. Andrews in Sewanee (Oct. 6), at Herb Parsons in Memphis (Oct. 27), and the season finale at Lock 4 Park in Gallatin (Nov. 17).
Several teams have been formed, including a Wilson County Comprehensive team coached by Stephen Capps. So far our team is small with only one rider, Charlie Capps (pictured above), a Junior Varsity rider with over six years experience in MTB racing from Mt Juliet High School.
If you would like more information, call Coach Capps at (615)497-4465 or email@example.com. Information pertaining to the races and the league can be found at www.tennesseemtb.org. The goal is to have teams from the various high schools in the county.
