When Mt. Juliet’s little costumed witches, princesses, scarecrows, Batmen and Spidermen arrive at Charlie Daniels Park Saturday, Oct. 12, Big Brothers will be ready for them.
“We’re kicking off our fundraising season with a booth at Halloween in the Park, selling cold drinks, chips and freshly grilled hamburgers,” President of the Club Sherry Bilbrey noted. “We’ll have tables and chairs set up so families can relax and have lunch. One of our main charitable events, Mothers Toy Store, is just two months away, and our funds are running low. Recipes from lunch will enable us to restock our coffers.”
Last year, thanks to generous donations, Big Brothers was able to provide holiday toys for more than 600 Mt. Juliet children, and to deliver food baskets to 325 area families.
Saturday’s trick-or-treaters won’t go away empty-handed, however. “We’ve purchased the cutest Halloween-themed goodies to give all the children who visit our booth,” Ms. Bilbrey enthused. She was quick to mention how much Big Brothers appreciates the support and generosity of Mt. Juliet residents. “We couldn’t do all we do without them,” she said. “Our Halloween treats are just a way of giving back to the community.”
