School board defers action on new calendar

A new calendar that would have seen fall and spring breaks down to just one week was deferred Monday at the Wilson County School Board meeting.

Board Member Wayne McNeese requested the deferral because he wanted to send the calendar back to the calendar committee to see if there is a way to push the breaks back out to two weeks. The deferral passed 4-1 with Larry Tomlinson the only voting against it.

The new calendar would have seen school start Aug. 1 and end with a half day on May 22. Fall Break would have been Oct. 6-10 and Spring Break would have been March 9-13.

McNeese requested to see if there was a way to get some of the single days off during the year to help extend the breaks.
