The Mt. Juliet girls soccer team closed out the regular season with a loss, but bounced back with a win in the first round of the district playoffs.
Mt. Juliet fell to Stewarts Creek in the regular season finale, 4-2.
Nataya Wade and Julia Duggan got goals in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Red Hawks.
Sarah Carter had 16 saves for Mt. Juliet
“We didn’t play bad in the first half.” said Head Coach Ryan Hill. “We made a lot of mental mistakes in the second half which led to the three goals Stewarts Creek scored. We have had that problem of playing inconsistent and it really hurt us tonight.”
Riley Wendling’s unassisted goal in the 14th minute of the second half was all Mt. Juliet needed to beat Gallatin in the first round of the District 9-AAA Tournament Saturday.
“We had a lot of chances to score and we missed a penalty kick in the first half that would have given us some momentum before halftime,” said Hill. “Gallatin battled the whole game but our defense did a great job keeping them from scoring.”
Mt. Juliet played No. 1 seed Beech Tuesday. The game was completed after press time.
On the other side of the tournament, Hendersonville beat Lebanon 8-1 and Station Camp beat Wilson Central 4-1 to advance to the other semifinal at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The championship game will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Gallatin High School.
