Mt. Juliet Christian Academy welcomed back alumni to Edward Suey Field last Friday night with a convincing 41-0 win over Pickett County High School.
Both teams entered the contest with identical 1-5 records but the Saints clearly had the upper hand on this night.
The MJCA scoring barrage was highlighted by senior, Andy Pittman’s, three rushing touchdowns and junior quarterback, Ric Van Mali’s, two touchdown passes. However, it was freshman, Samuel Eastin who began the scoring with a touchdown run on MJCA’s initial possession of the first quarter. Pitman scored his first touchdown from three yards out in the second quarter to give the Saints a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Pickett County offense had some success running up the middle against the Saints but was unable to sustain drives deep into MJCA territory.
The Saints took the second half kickoff and went on an 80 yard scoring drive ending with a pass from Van Mali to sophomore, Race McLean for a 21-0 Saints lead. On the ensuing kickoff, eighth grader, Dawson Perry, recovered a Pickett County fumble setting up the Saints offense near mid-field. Two plays later, Van Mali threw his second touchdown pass to tight end, Zach Jones to stretch the Saints lead to 28-0. Andy Pitman ran in the final two MJCA touchdowns with the last coming with less than a minute left in the game.
The 2-5 Saints travel to Kings Academy in Knoxville next Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. MJCA will close out its home schedule October 25 against Zion Christian Academy.
