The Mt. Juliet Lady Bears are headed to the State Tournament once again.

The Mt. Juliet Lady Bears knocked off Franklin in the Sectional game Saturday, 61-43, to make another trip to the state tournament. The Lady Bears last went in 2012.

The Lady Bears (29-1) will open the State Tournament at Middle Tennessee State University Wednesday against Jefferson County (22-11). If they Lady Bears win, they could face Blackman and former Lady Bear MeMe Jackson. The Lady Blaze are currently No. 1 in the nation by USA Today.

Against Franklin, the Lady Bears struggled a bit early with the Franklin pressure zone. The Lady Rebels were hitting their shots on the other end, and only trailed the Lady Bears, 14-10 at the end of the first.

The Lady Bears kept doing what they do, get the ball down low to Sally McCabe and Ronajane DeGray, and they built their lead to 25-17 by the break.

Mt. Juliet took control in the third, building the lead to as many as 19 points at 42-23, before Franklin closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, cutting it 42-29.

But the damage had been done, and Mt. Juliet kept pounding it inside, coming away with a 61-43 win.

DeGray and McCabe combined for 46 of Mt. Juliet’s 61 points. DeGray had 24, while McCabe had 22. McCabe also grabbed 12 rebounds and had three blocks.
