Mt. Juliet got a come from behind win to start the baseball season Monday night, beating Oakland, 3-2.
Jackson Hollinshead’s RBI single in the sixth inning was the difference, and Eli Schreiber shut the door on the Patriots.
The first six innings belonged to Austin Smith, who struck out five, while giving up six hits and two runs.
The Bears got on the board in the fifth when Peyton Cole scored on a wild pitch. He had tripled to get on base.
In the sixth, the Bears put together a two-out rally, starting with Alex Houser’s double. Curt Hoppe singled to center, scoring pinch runner Peyton Haynes to tie the game. Hollinshead followed with his game winning RBI, which scored pinch runner Matt Massey.
Mt. Juliet traveled to Rossview Tuesday night. That game was completed after press time. Thursday, the Bears will travel to Chattanooga to compete in the Scenic City Classic.
