This is the last week for our Teachers of the Year. This week, we meet Elzie Patton’s Mitzi Lundy.

Lundy is in her 4th year at Elzie Patton Elementary, and her 17th year of teaching music. She previously taught in Hawaii and Sumner County.

“I love helping children keep the joy in music,” said Lundy.

Lundy loves Elzie Patton, particularly the Steven Covey 7 Steps of Leadership program. She said it allows the kids to learn to do a lot of things for themselves, and makes them strong independent learners and leaders.

Lundy said being chosen by her peers as Teacher of the Year was very humbling, especially since she teaches a specialized subject.

“It shows they respect what we do,” said Lundy.

Lundy will be up for Wilson County Teacher of the Year Friday at a banquet held at Cumberland University. The event is sponsored by Cedar Stone Bank and Wilson County Motors.
