The Mt. Juliet boys soccer team repeated as district champions, knocking off previously undefeated in the district Station Camp, 2-0.
The road to the championship started with overtime wins over Gallatin and Hendersonville.
In the opener, Cameron Woodfin connected on a free kick with just six seconds left in overtime. The Bears beat the Green Wave, 4-3.
Woodfin had a hat trick, and Colbe Earles had a goal with six minutes remaining to tie it.
It was 4-3 once again in the second round, as the Bears outlasted the Commandos. Tanner Dabell had the game winner in overtime, as well as another goal. Austin Coleman had the other two goals, as well as an assist. Woodfin picked up two assists, and Earles had one.
Goalie Dylan Cole had 15 big saves to keep the Bears alive.
The Golden Bears faced their toughest test of the season in the finals against state ranked No. 3 and undefeated in the district Station Camp.
The first half found few chances as both defenses stood tall. The Bears Chris Prybilla directed the defense of Zack Hinkle, Landon Bauder and Defensive Mid Fielders, Earles and Zack McGhee.
The Bison’s defense was led by Tanner Carter.
The game changed with 16 minutes to go when Woodfin broke through the left side of the Bison defense and found David Siever cutting through the 18 yard box. Siever drilled past the Bison keeper for the first goal of the game and eventual game winner.
The Bison’s were not about to go down without a fight and pressed the Bears defense and keeper Dylan Cole with wave after wave of chances over the next 12 minutes, but the Bears held strong. Woodfin finished off the Bison with four minutes left when he cut right split two defenders and curled a shot inside the right post to put the game on ice.
The Bears played West Creek Tuesday night in Region 5 play. The game was completed after press time.
