The Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Saints middle school baseball team are the 2014 Middle Tennessee Independent Baseball League Champions.
The Saints finished their season with a record of 16-2 over all and 13-2 in conference play. They finished the regular season tied for first with Middle TN Christian in the MTIBL but Middle TN Christian held the tie breaker and were seeded first in the tournament bracket. MJCA went on to defeat and run rule the number one seeded Middle Tennessee Christian School by a score of 13-2 in six innings of play in the championship game on Saturday in Clarksville.
Gavin Sellers pitched the complete game for the win. In six innings of play he posted 7 strikeouts, three walks, and the defense played very strong behind him posting no errors. The Saints were led on offense by Cole Alsup who went 3-for-5 and two RBIs. Alex Pitman, Gavin Sellers, and Dawson Perry went 2-for-5. Pitman had one RBI, Perry had two RBIs, Sellers doubled and had three RBIs. Camden Burgess went 2-for-4 on the day and one RBI. Preston Sloan 1-for-4, Noah Michael 1-for-4 with a double.
“This is a huge win for us,” Coach Mike Kittrell said. “I can’t say enough about these guys and their efforts. I’m excited to see what the future holds for this groups of kids, they are a very special group of young men. Our coaching staff is great and I really appreciate all that they did through the season. The good Lord has truly blessed us and I’m so thankful to be a part of what God is doing here at MJCA.”
