Wilson Central picked up a win over Maryville in the Spring Fling last week, but couldn’t overcome two strong teams in Soddy-Daisy and Gibbs, ending their season.
Central jumped on Maryville early in the opener and kept the pressure on the entire game. Morgan Powell got things going with a 2-out single, and Katie Eakes drove her in with a RBI double to center field, giving the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Claire Smith started a rally, doubling to left center. Three straight walks brought in the second Central run.
Maryville cut the lead in half in the fourth with a solo home run, but Wilson Central was able able to put two more on the board in the fifth. Brooke Pfefferle drove in a run with a RBI single, and Karlie Odum was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in another run.
The Lady Rebels were able to get a run across in the seventh, but Central hel on for the 4-2 win.
Central got on the board first later in the day against Soddy-Daisy, but lost 3-2.
Brittany Wiseman doubled in the first. Pinch runner Keily Preston would eventually score on an error.
Soddy-Daisy got two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.
Central was able to get one run back when Kendall Eden scored on a passed ball.
The loss moved the Lady Wildcats down to the loser’s bracket against Gibbs.
Central once again was able to get the lead first. Katie Eakes homered to right in the second inning, and then started a rally in fourth with a ground rule double. Smith would eventually drive in the run.
Central took that lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Gibbs got two runs to send it into extra innings.
Odum gave Central the lead back in the eighth with a RBI double down the left field line, but a RBI single and an error gave the win to Gibbs.
Central finished the season 34-17.
Gibbs ended up losing in the finals to eventual AAA State Champion Dickson County, 4-1.
