Senior Center looking for a new home

The Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center is trying to take the next step.

Membership has doubled in the last year at the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center whose tag line is: “Where Friends Meet” More than 700 members enjoy programs in Arts & Crafts, Drama & Music, Travel, Recreation, Exercise, Wellness, Education, Socials and Special Events. All takes place in the 10,000 square feet building that is no longer large enough to accommodate. On some days there is activity in every room and standing room only at special events.

“It’s time to plan for a larger, more energy efficient building”, says Executive Director, Linda McClanahan. “Our success is due to low cost quality programs, support from the community and an outstanding board of directors.”

The Center’s Strategic Planning Committee meets regularly to address the center’s growth and plan for the center’s future. Architect, Sam Anderson, a member of this Committee has completed a first draft layout and rendering of a proposed new building. The center hopes to receive a donation of a minimum of five acres of land to accommodate the building and parking areas. Property near the current center at 2034 North Mt. Juliet Road would be ideal. Anyone interested in the donation should contact the Board President, Bill Edwards at Crye-Leike in Mt. Juliet. Upon receiving a donation of land, the center would kick off a capital campaign to raise funds to build the center. Naming rights for the center would be awarded to the land donor and significant investors.

The mission of the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center is to provide a place for older adults aged 55+ to gather for recreational, social and educational programs and to alleviate isolation and loneliness among the elderly.

A hot meal is provided daily by the Meals on Wheels program and food distributions, health fairs, concerts and special events are scheduled often for the center’s members and the community. Quality programs at no and low cost are scheduled daily to keep seniors active, healthy and vibrant. Membership dues are just $30 per year.

Operating funds are raised through grants, special events, donations and membership. The Senior Activity Center’s vision is to reach every older adult in our community to assure that no one is ever hungry or alone. Potential investors are invited to visit the center for a tour and visit our website at Call (615) 758-9114 to schedule a visit.
