|Scarecrow workshops now at Garr's|
|Tuesday, October 9, 2012|
Garr’s Rental & Feed will present its popular Scarecrow Workshops on three consecutive weekends this fall announced Roy Garr, co-owner and president. During the 90-minute workshops, families can build their own life-size scarecrows, straw-filled creations suitable for use as an outdoor autumn or Halloween decoration.
“This year, we are offering two Sunday afternoon workshops, as well as several Saturday sessions. In addition to adult-sized scarecrows, we will be offering child-sized scarecrows again this year; we’ve found that the kids love to decorate a scarecrow that is their own size,” said Roy Garr, co-owner and president. The 2012 Scarecrow Workshops left for this year are:
Saturday, Oct. 13 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.
The workshop fee is $25 which includes materials to build and decorate the scarecrow. A portion of the fee will benefit Charis Health Center of Mt. Juliet, a nonprofit clinic, staffed by volunteer physicians, nurses and others, that provides health care at a reduced rate to the working uninsured in Wilson County. Families may only participate in one workshop; one adult must accompany every three children in a family. Families must provide clothing for their scarecrow: a long-sleeve button-up shirt and one pair of overalls. Garr’s Rental and Feed will provide the instruction, all scarecrow accessories including a straw hat, the frame and stuffing. When making a reservation, a family must select the size of its scarecrow (child size or adult size) and select a standing or seated scarecrow. Reservations are required for participation; please call 754-2777.
For families unable to attend the workshops or for participants wanting to make more than one scarecrow, Garr’s will offer “Do-It-Yourself” scarecrow kits for $19.95 plus tax. Garr’s will also offer a do-it-yourself Ghost Kit for $12.95, which includes the frame, material for the head and “spooky material” for the body. Additional items - such as pumpkins, corn stalks, mums and straw bales - will be available for purchase. Workshop information is posted on the Garr’s website at www.garrs.biz.
Families are welcomed and encouraged to bring their own cameras to capture the fun of the Scarecrow Workshops at Garr’s.
