|Commissioners start process for interstate exit at Central Pike|
|Tuesday, February 26, 2013|
The Board of Commissioners got the ball rolling on getting a new I-40 interchange on Central Pike at the meeting Monday.
There were two items on the agenda pertaining to the interchange. The first was a resolution saying the board supported it. The other was an ordinance appropriating funds not to exceed $75,000 for engineering assistance to prepare an Interchange Access Request, project programming assistance for amendments to the MPO Transportation Improvement Program, and improvements to Central Pike and S. Mt. Juliet Road.
The ordinance is necessary to the Providence Central project, which will possibly bring Class A office buildings, more retail and multi and single family homes.
The interchange is one of the later phases of the project, and will still be a few years away if it happens. The project will be done by TDOT, and was not on their three-year plan for 2012-2015.
In other actions, the board approved $35,500 for fire hall site access improvements, a transfer of donations to the Explorer program, and a site agreement for the cell tower the City leases at Crown Castle on York Road.
