Cedar Creek Marina offers great live music PDF Print E-mail

Live music, sitting by the lake and good food in an outdoor setting are essential to summer.

Luckily, Cedar Creek Marina offers all three Friday and Saturday nights with great local musicians playing into the night.

The shows, which started in 2008, are for all ages, you can even bring your pets to the concerts. They run from 7 to 11 p.m.

The Cedar Creek Marina has gone through plenty of changes the last few years. After the flood in 2010, and strong winds doing damage in 2011, the marina reopened in May 2012 after a complete rebuilding of the facility. Approximately 200 covered slips able to accommodate vessels from 20 feet to 60 feet are available for boat owners in Wilson County, plus outside space for boats larger than 60 feet. Access to the covered slips is through a secure gate with the use of a gate code.

The Corps of Engineers docked a floating platform from the Girl Scout camp there a few years ago and local musician Mike Hatchett had a suggestion.

“Of course, I saw it as a stage,” said Hatchett.

Now great local bands and musicians play there, including Hatchett’s band, Southern Ground. Hatchett was the former sound man for George Jones, and worked with many rock acts before that like Ted Nugent and Jethro Tull. He is the drummer for Southern Ground. The lead guitarist is a construction contractor named Don Baze. The bass player is retired cable, media installer, Bill Bush, and the lead singer is a mechanic named Rocky Medrano. Southern Ground will be playing Friday at Cedar Creek Marina. Hatchett said that he expects plenty of nationally known musicians to make their way to the stage soon because of so many settling in the area.

In addition to the floating stage with professional stage lighting, there is a nice covered pavilion for guests to sit and listen to the live music or enjoy a meal from the extensive menu at Fishtales Grill. During the fall months, the pavilion has a cozy fireplace to warm up with. There is seating for about seventy guests in the covered areas of the front porch and pavilion, with another 60 or more seating at the outdoor tables on the floating dock next to the stage.

Cedar Creek Marina is located at 9120 Saundersville Road. For more information, call 758-5174 or check them out on the web at www.cedarcreekmarinatn.com.
