|Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce launches shop local campaign|
|Tuesday, November 26, 2013|
The Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce has launched a shop local campaign to showcase people who are shopping local. From Nov. 15-Dec. 15, 20 Elves armed with 100 stickers are canvasing the community with one goal in mind…..hoping to catch people in the act of shopping local.
“It’s just another way to help people to focus on shopping in our own community,” says Anita Goff, Director of Membership for the Mt. Juliet Chamber. “When we catch someone shopping in Mt. Juliet, we give them a sticker and take their photo which we upload to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtags #shoplocalmj and #mjchamber.” “We’ve been uploading photos for a few weeks now and so far, have had a good reaction from the community. It’s good for the local stores to get some added attention, plus people like to see their photos out there on the web!”
If you’re interested in seeing all the shop local pics, find the Chamber on social media with the hashtags above, or click on the website at www.mtjulietchamber.com and find the #shoplocalmj photo album under the Community Snapshot tab.
“The face of the business community is getting younger and younger all the time,” says Goff. “We like to use social media as much as we can so we can stay relevant and interact with our customers as much as possible. This shop local campaign has pretty much driven itself since all the photogs upload their own pictures.”
Why shop local? Chamber President Mark Hinesley replies “Locally owned businesses build strong communities by linking neighbors and by contributing to local causes. Shopping local also funds more city programs and services through sales tax dollars. Plus, shopping in our own community helps us to maintain the distinctive local character that makes up the charm of Mt. Juliet. It’s just a win-win and for us, there really is no reason to shop anywhere else.”
One more reason to shop local? Notice anything interesting when you look at the #shoplocalmj hashtag? Save yourself from the added hustle and bustle of traveling to other communities to shop. Shop calm and stay local.
