Local businesses like HDP give back to community PDF Print E-mail

While the city is run on taxes mainly, the real difference comes from the local businesses and residents that donate their time and money to help local causes.

One of those businesses is HDP Motorcycle Shop. Since David and Pat Howell opened up business roughly 10 years ago, they have donated or organized events that have raised over $150,000 for the Mt. Juliet community.

“Folks like Mr. Howell and his wife are what make our city click,” said City Manager Kenny Martin.

Martin said that his cooperation with Howell goes back to his days when he was Chief of Police. Martin said Howell was one of the first to donate money to the Mt. Juliet Police Department to help them get assault rifles. He also built a mini bike in honor of Officer Jerry Mundy who was killed in the line of duty. The bike was initially supposed to be used with the D.A.R.E. program to help keep kids off drugs, but now is held at the city. Howell also donated to the Shop with a Cop program, which takes local youth shopping with officers during Christmas time to help them and their families have a nice Christmas season.

“If everyone just gave a little bit, it would make a huge difference,” said Howell.

Martin said there are many businesses in the community like HDP that help keep the community moving. He said even when Howell probably didn’t have the money, he still gave because it was for a good cause.

Howell has also been active with helping the Mt. Juliet Help Center with bike rides for toys and food,  the Mt. Juliet Animal Shelter, and the Youth Ranch. He also organized a ride for the families of Mundy and Wilson County Sheriff’s Office’s John Musice, who was also killed in the line of duty, which raised $50,000.

HDP Motorcycle Shop is located at 14346 Lebanon Road. They can be reached at (615)773-9205.

Foster Dental Care cuts ribbon on new office PDF Print E-mail

When their oldest son, David, built a life size trebuchet for his senior project at Wilson Central High School, Dr. Steve and Kathy thought he might be an engineer.

Instead he decided to follow in his Dad’s footsteps and “engineer” people’s smiles.  The Fosters had to hop to it to explore ways to expand the dental practice Doc had been operating out of for 26 years. They wanted to offer the best they could for their patients as well as their staff, three of whom have been with them 20 years or more.

The recent ribbon cutting officially opened a facility filled with state of the art technology and an atmosphere the Fosters hope you find comfortable and relaxing. Designed by a dentist in Rhode Island, the equipment is ergonomically designed to make the experience easier for both the dentist and the patient. The rooms offer privacy and seating with heat and massage and an efficient means of delivering the best of care. Additionally, the practice has room to grow for when Zach joins his Dad and brother in a little over a year.

Doc says “Mt. Juliet has been a huge blessing to us giving us a wonderful community to raise our children and providing work and friendships.  We want to in turn to be a blessing to this city and those who have supported us as a family and a business over so many years.”
