Wilson County Schools has now made it so any student within the system can transfer to any school that has an opening. It is in accordance with a new state law according to Wilson County Schools Attendance Supervisor Stan Moss.

If a student transfers to a different school, they will be able to stay at the school until their time there ends.

“Once they are in, they’re in,” said Moss.

They will not go on to the middle or high school that school is zoned for, but the one they are actually zoned for. Parents will have to apply again for a transfer if they want to go to a middle or high school within which they are not zoned.

Moss said he wanted to clarify that only students within the school system can apply for a transfer. Students in the Lebanon City School district or outside of the county, will not be able to transfer.

A “Student Transfer Application” must be completed and submitted within the transfer application period of Aug. 15 through Sept. 30. No transfers will be considered after this period unless there has been a change in custody or residence of the parent or guardian.

As long as space is available in a school all transfers will be approved.  In cases where the requests exceed the number of spaces available transfers will be granted in the following priority: Employees of Wilson County Schools; Students whose siblings are already enrolled in the school; Students requesting a specific course offering not available in their base school; Lottery.

Transportation for students granted transfers shall be the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

Student Transfer Applications are available at the district office or on the website at wcschools.com.

The schools that are accepting transfers will be made public. Right now, there are a few schools on the school website that have openings. They are Rutland Elementary, West Elementary, West Wilson Middle School, Lebanon High School, Watertown High School and Wilson Central High School.
