|New 10-digit dialing now in effect|
|Tuesday, July 29, 2014|
A new area code of 629 is now in effect in the Mt. Juliet area.
Residents will now have to dial 10 digits when dialing, the area code plus the telephone number, even for local calls. For right now, calls that are just dialed with seven digits will be completed, but on Feb. 28, 2015, it will be mandatory to use 10 digits.
The 629 area code is known as an Area Code Overlay. The Tennessee Regulatory Authority approved the new area code when it found that the 615 area code was running out of numbers. Customers will not have to change their own phone number, they will just have to dial the 10 digits when dialing out. 911, 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 and 811 will remain the same. Security systems could also be affected by the new dialing procedures, so check your provider.
The new area code will go in effect in communities throughout the existing 615 area code. New 629 area code numbers will start being assigned on March 28, 2015.
