Lady Bears into regional finals PDF Print E-mail

The Mt. Juliet Lady Bears got two easy wins to get into the regional finals this past week. It was a mismatch from start to finish Friday as the Mt. Juliet Lady Bears beat Kenwood 80-43 in the regional quarterfinal game. Mt. Juliet had nine points on the board before Kenwood even passed half court, and led 28-8 at the end of the first. 
Kenwood starting hitting some shots in the second, but they couldn’t slow down the Lady Bears. It was 49-21 at the break, and 68-31 going into the fourth. 
The Lady Bears dominated the paint, as Caya Williams and Sally McCabe combined for 46 points. Williams had 26 and McCabe finished with 20. Blake Jenkines had 20 for Kenwood. 
Monday, the Lady Bears took it to Rossview, winning 68-38. 
Mt. Juliet took a 20-7 lead after one, and led 35-18 at the break. An 18-8 third quarter put the game way out of reach. It was another dominating performance in the paint, as Williams and McCabe combined for 34. Williams had 18 and McCabe had 16. Mimi Jackson finished with 10. 
It gets much tougher for the Lady Bears Wednesday as they take on undefeated Clarksville (34-0), 7 p.m. at Clarksville Northeast. They are led by Tennessee signee Bashaara Graves.

The Mt. Juliet boys stunned Clarksville Northeast Saturday with a 68-51 beating of the highly ranked Eagles. 
Northeast came in ranked No. 5 in the state, and led by Kentucky signee Alex Poythress. 
None of that mattered, as Mt. Juliet dominated the second half, including a 17-4 run to end the game to knock the Eagles out of the postseason. 
Northeast led the first half, 12-10 after one and 26-23 at the break. 
But the second half was all Bears, outscoring the Eagles 45-25 en route to the victory. 
Caleb Chowbay led the Bears with 23, including four three-pointers. C.J. McEwen had 14 and Brandon Shepard had 13. Poythress was held to 18 points, nine below his average. 
The Bears played Clarksville in the regional semifinals Tuesday. The game started after press time.
