Sunday, April 1, 2012
Championship teams know how to close. That is true of the Mt. Juliet Lady Bears, who outscored Station Camp 16-4 in the fourth quarter Monday to grab the District 9-AAA title, 57-32. In the past two games with the second seed Lady Bison, Mt. Juliet has outscored them 36-10 in the fourth quarter.
It was good back and forth game early, as the game was tied 10-10 late in the first. However, Mt. Juliet had a 13-3 run that lasted into the second, and Station Camp was never able to really recover, although they did get in under a double digit lead in the third. At the break, Mt. Juliet led 30-18.
Going into the fourth, the Lady Bears held onto a 41-28 lead.
Caya Williams led the Lady Bears with 24. Paige Baugher added 10. Caya Williams, Sally McCabe and Allyson Hayes were all named to the all-tournament team. Mt. Juliet will go on to regionals to play Kenwood in the first round. That game is Friday at 7 p.m., at Clarksville Northeast High School.
