Wilson Central wrestling is off to a hot start this season. The Wildcats are 16-0 and ranked No. 11 in all classes in the coaches poll.
On Dec. 1, Wilson Central defeated Mt. Juliet, 56-21, Lebanon, 76-4 and Riverdale, 60-14. Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Wildcats defeated Oakland 65-15 and Hillsboro 77-3. Thursday, Dec. 8, Wilson Central dominated Blackman 58-18 and Franklin County 77-6. Austin Richards is undefeated at 19 – 0 and is ranked 5th in the state. Teammate Nick Insalaco is ranked 3rd in the state. Eddie Small defeated Legrand Sommers last night 8 to 6 in overtime. Somers was the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the state.
Central bowlers capture district titles
The Wilson Central girls and boys bowling teams captured District 10 championships recently.
This is the eighth straight district title for the girls, and the fourth straight for the boys.
The girls have been 108-1 in district play since 2004, and the boys have been 51-1 in district play since 2008.
The boys beat Lebanon in the finals 20-7.
Central had 3,828 total pins to Lebanon’s 3604.
Spencer Harp had a 684.
The girls beat Lebanon 25-2.
Total pins for the girls was 3,064 to the Lady Devils 2,249.
Laurel Everett bowled a 587.
Regional tournaments are the week of Jan. 16.
Central swimmers off to a 4-1 start
The Wilson Central swim team won a dual meet against Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville to improve to 4-1 recently.
Central beat Mt. Juliet 183-155 and Hendersonville 185-153.
The team will swim Wednesday against Ensworth at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center starting at 5 p.m.
The Wilson County Championships will be held Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center.
“This is a great time for everyone in Wilson County to come out and see the uprising sport. WCHS has individually grown their team from single digits to over 30 swimmers in the last 6 years,” said Coach Alex Major
