Encore Theatre Company presents “A Bad Year For Tomatoes” by John PatrickFed up with the pressures and demands of her acting career, the famous Myra Marlowe leases a house in tiny Beaver Haven, and settles down to write her autobiography. Sounds simple, right? Stir in a manager who hopes Myra will finally say “yes” with nosy neighbors who invade her privacy to the point that she invents a crazy sister “Sadie,” a handyman with a crush on Sadie (who suddenly disappears) and a Sheriff who suspects foul play when Sadie cannot be located, and you have a comedy that will keep audiences laughing right up to the final curtain, and then some.
Directed by Heather Alexander (last seen on Encore’s stage as Vera Claythore in “Ten Little Indians” and winner of a Nashville Broadway World award for best actress in 2010 for her role as Ma Joad in ‘Grapes of Wrath”), the cast includes Kim Kinsley (last seen on the Encore stage in as Sister Mary Amnesia in “Nunsense”) as Myra Marlowe, Rod Streng (Rogers in “Ten Little Indians”) as Tom Lamont, Beth Rouse (has been in several Encore shows including “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “Last One Out”) is nosy Cora Gump. John Carpenter, who has worked with Encore in the past as director of “Cheaper by the Dozen” and lead a children’s workshop three years ago, is the Sheriff. New to the Encore stage is Bunny Hartman (Reba Harper), Laura Lindsey (Willa Mae Wilcox) and Kurt Grabenstein (Piney.)
Show Opens Friday June 15, and runs weekends through June 30.
