Smith earns Eagle Scout at 13
Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Dwayne Kalani Smith achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 13. In order to achieve this rank, a boy must earn at least 21 merit badges of which 12 are required. The BSA states, “Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only 5 percent of all Boy Scouts do so.” This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Eagle Scout.

Smith renovated the music room at the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center, replacing ceiling tiles, painting, and redecorating the room. The biggest challenge for a scout to complete his project is supervising all phases and obtaining donations.

Smith received donations from the following businesses and individuals: Ace Hardware, Wilson Bank & Trust, Safehouse, Ozburn Hessey, Dale Glenn and Furniture Unlimited. Friends and family also volunteered hours to help carry out his project.

If you are interested in doing an Eagle Project at the Senior Center, please contact Linda McClanahan at (615)758-9114. There are always ongoing needs and projects at the Senior Center, especially now while completing their park.
