Kathy Bates, a floral designer at Rebel Hill Florist, is the 2012 winner of the Charles Owen Memorial Scholarship Trophy awarded by the Central Tennessee Professional Florist Association (CTPFA). Bates won the trophy based on a design competition and interview, and received $1,500 to be used for continued professional education.“I am extremely proud of Kathy,” said Anna Page, owner of Rebel Hill Florist. “Kathy and the other award-winning designers at Rebel Hill Florist are well-known for their creative talent. While they have many years of design experience, they consistently seek opportunities for professional development.”
Bates plans to use the scholarship to attend the 128th Annual National Convention of the Society of American Florists in September in Florida, where she will participate in a series of professional development programs and workshops.
Bates, a resident of Mt. Juliet, has 30 years of experience in the floral industry. She joined Rebel Hill Florist in 2008 as a floral designer. Her extensive and varied experience includes owning a florist shop, working as a wholesale buyer of floral supplies and flowers, and serving as sales representative for a flower wholesale company. In 2011, Bates won the Owen-Shackleford Grant for professional education awarded by the Tennessee State Florists’ Association (TSFA).
