|Community builds park at MJ Senior Center|
|Tuesday, October 23, 2012|
The Mt. Juliet community stepped up recently and helped build a park at the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center.
The project began two years ago with the demolition of an old storage trailer courtesy of Solomon Builders and the Morning Rotary Club.Clearing of an overgrown area of land was done by Leroy Watkins of High Top Trees and Donnie Arvin Construction.
One by one, community businesses and individuals began to pledge contributions to the park.
Eagle Scout, Devon Scott and his troop built a beautiful pergola for the park, Eagle Scout Gus Raymond and his troop donated four wooden benches especially made for seniors and Eagle Scout Richard Morgan and his troop designed a raised flower bed so the seniors could easily tend it without kneeling.
The raised bed was filled with soil and a lovely herb garden donated by Moss’s Florist & Garden Center.
Roy Garr of Garr’s Rental & Feed built a beautiful water feature.
H & H Supply, D & D Electric and Coldwell Banker Barnes contributed supplies for that feature.
A lovely picnic table was a gift of the Mt. Juliet Lions Club.
Lowes Home Improvement of Mt. Juliet and Lebanon built a patio and the walkways for the park.
They also partnered with Minchey’s Landscaping and Design Center to build a border for the park.
The beautiful landscaping and finishing touches of trees, flowers, shrubs and mulch were the generous gift of Tom Needham’s Nursery.
A 15 member committee of Senior Center members planned layout of the park.
What began with a sketch by Master Gardner, Lynn Mouvery ended with a vision fulfilled.
Many of the center’s members lent a hand with preparations of the park.
Artisans; Marlynda Augelli and Terry Andersen will unveil the beautiful recognition board they created to honor all of the park contributors.
The public is invited to come celebrate with us Thursday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m.
A dedication ceremony will take place to honor all contributors.
Music and light refreshments will be provided.
The mission of the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center is to provide a place for older adults to gather for recreational, educational and social activities and to alleviate isolation and loneliness among the elderly.
