Community helps make Big Brothers of MJ toy and food drive a big success
Monday, December 31, 2012

Big Brothers is sending out a big thanks to the community which helped make the Christmas 2012 Food and Toy distribution to needy families a success.

Over 300 families received food boxes, and 600 children received toys from Santa.

“We would like to thank all the businesses and individuals that donated money as well as businesses and churches that collected toys and food,” said Owen Gleaves on behalf of Big Brothers of Mt. Juliet. “We offer a special thanks to the ROTC and the Mt. Juliet High School students for their hard work and the Wilson County Schools and faculty and the many volunteers that worked in the Mothers Toy Stores, and those that help deliver food boxes.”

Gleaves said due to the overwhelming support, it would be impossible to mention everyone, but that without them, their mission would not be possible.

The Big Brothers of Mt. Juliet are very low in funds, and without donations, they will be unable to continue their mission of helping those in need. The majority of non-perishable foods for their annual Christmas food boxes are collected through our local schools and businesses however the perishable foods provided in the food boxes must purchased and paid for from Big Brothers funds. Donations for 2012 have not kept pace with the needs of our community and they are now in a difficult position of having to turn needy families away. When a family is experiencing short term difficulties with paying an electrical bill, water bill, heating bill, sewer bill, rent, needing food for their family, medication, or etc. during the year we offer temporary assistance.

You can help Big Brothers help these needy families through difficult times with a donation of any amount. Each of us could find ourselves in need at any time. If you would like to make a contribution, please mail to Big Brothers of Mt. Juliet, TN P.O. Box 1513, Mt. Juliet, TN 37121.

Your contribution, regardless of the amount, will be very much appreciated. For more information please visit www.bigbrothersofmtjuliet.org or call our help line at (615)641-0577.
