County poll officials honored
Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Wilson County Poll Officials were thanked for their service and updated on election plans at a reception honoring poll officials held at the Ward Ag Center on Thursday evening. The Wilson County Election Commission appoints over 300 Wilson County voters as poll officials for each countywide election.
Phillip Warren, Administrator of Elections, recapped the elections successes of 2012 and introduced plans for future election administration and training. “Preparation is a necessary part of success and it is never too early to start preparing for the next election,” Warren told the group.
Warren unveiled new registrar software that will be utilized in 2014 to speed up voter check in at the polls. After the success of a five precinct pilot program conducted during two elections in 2012, this new technology will be standard procedure throughout Wilson County in 2014 elections.
New opportunities for classroom, online and hands on poll official training were also rolled out at the reception. “Poll officials in Wilson County are some of the best trained in Tennessee,” Warren said. “Our goal is to maintain a level of training for our Poll Officials that is of the highest quality and innovative,” Warren commented.
Tennessee Coordinator of Elections, Mark Goins presented retiring Election Commissioner Bob Haley a certificate signed by Tre’ Hargett, TN Secretary of State, Coordinator Goins and the four Wilson County Election Commissioners. Haley has served Wilson County as Chairman and Secretary of the Election Commissioner since 2002. “It has been an honor to serve on the Election Commission and be a part of the tradition of well administered elections in Wilson County,” Haley said.
