A man who stole a car in West Tennessee was found sleeping in that car in Mt. Juliet the day after Christmas.
Alex Cartwright, 24, Memphis stole the car on Christmas day as the victim was dropping off gifts at a home. The car was left running, so Cartwright jumped in and took off.
According to the Mt. Juliet Police Department, Thursday around 1:30 p.m., Mt. Juliet Police were summoned to the Sprint Store on Adams Lane where Cartwright was parked behind the store, sleeping. After running a check, it was determined that the car was stolen because the victim had reported it to the Collierville Police Department.
“Reports of suspicious behavior from citizens is very useful,” said Police Chief James Hambrick. “We were alerted of the suspicious behavior by a citizen, and it gave us the opportunity to take a thief off the streets.”
Sergeant Fulton and other officers approached the car, and found out that Cartwright had stopped in Mt. Juliet to beg for money. He was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail on a $15,000 bond, charged with Theft of Property. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9.
