MJ History: The Fire Chief

This week, we have another selection from “Julip” by Ron Castleman, his book about growing up in Mt. Juliet. This chapter is titled “The Fire Chief.”

I was five years old in 1950 and of course hadn’t started to school. On what I remember as a spring day, Daddy and I went to the nearby town of Lebanon.  Lebanon is about 15 miles East of Mt. Juliet and to me was a big city at the time. I’m not sure I knew why we were going until we arrived.

Pig-Stravaganza a success

There was standing room only as more than 150 people gathered in support of the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center for Pig-stravaganza. Attendance at the event reiterated the need for a larger facility.

Jazz Alliance Big Band Dance at Wilson County Fair

The Jazz Alliance invites anyone and everyone to attend their Big Band/Jazz and Swing Dance Friday Aug. 24 at the Wilson County Fair in the Fiddlers Grove Pavilion from 7-9 p.m. There is lots of room to dance and fun will be the order of the night.

Mayfield designated Naval Aviator

Navy Ensign Christine N. Mayfield, daughter of Jackie D. Mayfield of Columbia, Tenn. and Malcolm P. Mayfield, of Mt. Juliet, was recently designated a Naval Aviator while serving with Helicopter Training Squadron Eight, Milton, Fla.
