MJ man arrested on multiple counts
Tuesday, January 20, 2015

A Mt. Juliet man was arrested after being accused of 10 counts of statutory rape by an authority figure while he was a youth pastor at a Lebanon Church.

Christopher Douglas Ross, 43, Mt. Juliet was accused by an under-aged victim of abusing her with inappropriate advances in 2010, which later progressed into sexual contact early in 2012. The allegations were made to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office in late 2014.

Access to more organic produce and groceries coming to MJ

Access to healthy, organic and locally grown food has been the talk for quite some time in Mt. Juliet.

As Mt. Juliet keeps growing, the desire for an organic grocery has been the tops of many people’s list as the next big get for the community. There is even a Facebook page called “Bring an Organic Grocery Store to Mt. Juliet, TN” which at the time of writing this story had 1,111 likes.

While there is still no word that will happen in the coming months, there is another option that is coming into the Nashville Market.

The company is called Green Bean Delivery, and they specialize in organic produce and natural groceries delivered straight to your door.

The way they do that is partnering with local farmers and food artisans and get their products to consumers that normally wouldn’t have easy access to it. So far in the Nashville area, they have partnered with Bongo Java, Hatcher Family Dairy, Johnson’s Honey Farm, The Nashville Jam Company, Nashville Toffee Company, Provence Breads & Cafe, Willow Egg Farm and more.

“We’ve been looking at the Nashville area for quite some time,” said Vice President John Freeland. Green Bean Delivery is also in Indianapolis, Ind., Cincinnati, Ohio, Colombus, Ohio, Louisville, Ky., St. Louis, Mo., Fort Wayne, Ind. and Lexington, Ky. Freeland said the company likes to be in big cities, but like to focus on the outlying communities which don’t have as easy access to food artisans and other farms in the area. He said that is what attracted them to the Mt. Juliet market.

“We want to make quality food more accessible, more affordable,” said Freeland.

Green Bean Delivery also believes in having a strong community presence, battling hunger in the cities they operate by joining forces with organizations like the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The way it works is you go onto the website, sign up as a customer, pick the items you want in their grocery store, and it is delivered directly to your door. There are no sign up or membership fees, and delivery is free on orders $35 or more. You can set up your produce subscription bin and set your schedule how often you want to receive it.

The Nashville area is currently in the pre-register phase, but you can place your first order Jan. 22. The first deliveries will go out Jan. 26.
