Col. Floyd Stowe, USMC, Ret., 70, Mt. Juliet, died Feb. 3. Colonel Stowe enlisted in the USMC on Nov. 19, 1964 and served until 1968. After completing OCS and TBS, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1969 and retired with the rank of Colonel in 1993 serving a total of 29 years. He spent one year in Vietnam (1970-1971) as an Air Intercept Control Officer. Col. Stowe taught high school math at Havelock High School in Havelock, NC and at Wilson Central High School. He was also the JROTC Senior Marine Instructor for eight years at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, LA. Col. Stowe was Founder and Chief of Township Volunteer Fire Department in Havelock, NC. He was the son of the late, Floyd Harry Stowe, Sr. and Eula Maye Bassett Stowe. He is survived by wife of 48 years and 5 months, Louise Dunkley Stowe, sons Chip Stowe and Richard (Jennifer) Stowe, brother Albert Stowe, sister, Sydney Stowe, grandchildren Ashton Stowe, Caitlin Stowe and Taylor Stowe, Sister-in-law Cathy Dunkley (Brian) Lowery, niece Anna Lowery (Brandon) Daniel, nephew Daniel (Courtney) Lowery. A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Bond Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Youngman officiating. Graveside service with full military honors will be in Virgilina Cemetery in Virgilina, VA on Feb. 13. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Col. Dennis Scholl, 49, Mt. Juliet, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 5. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at Hermitage Church of the Nazarene with interment to follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 5-9 p.m. at Sellars and Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. at the church. 

He was born May 6, 1966 at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to Stewart W. Scholl and Kathleen Fullerton Scholl. Mr. Scholl graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with bachelors and master’s degrees in engineering. He was a self-employed general contractor in Mt. Juliet. He was an avid hunter, loved to fly fish, and adored spending family time boating, swimming, and watching baseball.

One of his passions was working with The Gideons International organization. As a believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, he made a personal commitment to spread the Gospel of Christ to all people so that they may also know him as their personal Savior. He was a member of the Hermitage Church of the Nazarene.

Dennis was a devoted father, loving husband, and faithful friend to those privileged to know him. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Scottie Wilkerson Scholl; son, Campbell James Scholl, a junior at the University of Central Florida in Orlando; daughter, Madeline Grace Scholl, a freshman at the University of Tennessee; mother and stepfather, Kathleen & Maurice Gilbert of Seagrove Beach, FL; father, Stewart Scholl of Little Rock, AR, sister, Rev. Lia Scholl of Winston-Salem, NC; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Wayne & Nancy Wilkerson of Hermitage, grandmother, Charlotte Foxwell of Seagrove Beach, FL; sisters-in-law, Janet Wilkerson, Susan (Rob) Moore, and Amy (Paul) Baker; and step-sister, Lisa Smith.

James Prater, 82, Mt. Juliet, died Feb. 5. Prater was a member of the Church of God. He loved fishing, hunting, baseball, shooting pool and animals. Mr. Prater liked to go for walks and was an avid reader. He was the son of the late, Alonzo and Pansy Gertrude Stewart Prater. Prater was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edsel Prater and Paul Prater and his sister, Ruth Stanford.

He is survived by sisters-in-law, Virginia Prater and Robbie Jo Prater, nieces and nephews Janice Vandiver, Carl (Teresa) Prater, Michael (Beth) Prater, Larry (Karen) Prater, Ronald Prater, Billy Prater, Phillip Prater and Kimberly Prater.

Lorie Jones, 44, Mt. Juliet, died Feb. 4. Lorie was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. She was a 1989 graduate of Lavergne High School. Lorie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harold Young and Earl and Ninna Howard.

She is survived by son Zack (Haley Pressley) Jones, parents Gary and Kathy Young, former Husband Dwayne Jones, sisters Elesha (Brad) Campbell and Aimee (Matthew) Lovvorn, grandmother Sylvia Young, niece Kayla Young, nephews Mark and Jarrett Jones and Jensen and Preston Lovvorn, several aunts and uncles, special friend Karen Ferrell.

Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 7, at Bond Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be Matthew Lovvorn, Brad Campbell, Mark Jones, Jarrett Jones, Marvin Waldron and Conner Pressley.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mt. Juliet Health Care.

WARE, Opal Alene

Opal Ware, 90, Lebanon, passed away Dec. 7.  The family will be receiving friends from 4 -8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the service on Thursday at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN.  The Funeral Service, conducted by Pastor Kelly Selby and Brother Gary Wilson, is 11 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home.  Interment in Wilson County Memorial will follow the service.  

Mrs. Ware is survived by two children: Fay Stewart (Mack) of Lebanon and Kelly Selby (Teressa) of Soddy Daisy; five grandchildren: Jack Bare, Anthony Bare (Kristen), Angell Stodberg (John), Joshua Selby, and Luke Selby; and 6 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by parents Verda Robinson and James Cleveland Finley, three brothers, and three sisters.  Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, (615)444-9393.
